We can count ourselves extremely lucky once again at Downstage, because Melbourne’s finest, The Prize, are coming back to the basement! We’ve had the pleasure of hosting them before, and holy shit, what a blast that was. The Prize have everything I could possibly want in a band for Downstage:

1. Three guitarists
2. Australian
3. Three guitarists
4. Absolutely blistering hits
5. Three guitarists

They play straight-up power pop/rock that fits perfectly alongside legends like Thin Lizzy, Cheap Trick, and the Buzzcocks, as well as fellow basement veterans like Melbourne’s own Civic and the American Split System.

Last year saw the release of their debut LP, In the Red, which was met with the praise it deserved. In the words of Ted from takinaride.com “Every now and then an album comes along that just smacks you in the face from the first listen, in the best possible way. ‘In The Red’ by The Prize is exactly that kind of record.” Couldn’t agree more. What a band. This is going to be fucking fantastic.
